Strychnine was this super-great hardcore band from Oakland. Strychnine's best album is called Dead Rats and Oakland Dogs. The Missin' Cousins played some shows together with Strychnine in the late 90's.

When we played a benefit together at the Long Haul in, let's say 1998, we decided to sing a medley of 3 of our favorite Strychnine songs as a tribute to them.

But they weren't around to hear our "tribute" and then a week later, a couple of us went to their show at Gilman street, and Lenny the singer talked smack about our earlier gig, telling the audience "Dudes we had to play a show with a bunch of fucking Berkeley hippies at the Long Haul last week."

Well! Fuck you Lenny -- in some ways we were just as fucking punk as them, but.. Not. We definitely were more hippie than Strychnine. But we love Strychnine, and recorded our Strychnine Medley anyway, down in the basement at Jefferson Street. We sent it to them later but never heard back.

This was recorded live on our wooden stage downstairs in the Jefferson, the wooden stage was left over from when they rebuilt the freeway that had collapsed in the Loma Prieta earthquake.

The song it features: Suzanne, David, Jesse, Elizabeth, Mike D, Julia, and is probably the only recording that features Stuart playing the bass, he played with us for a minute.

Be sure to keep listening after the song when you can hear the original strychnine songs.
